Born in colour, and bringing it wherever I go
I’m Nisha Arunachalam, an artist turned designer who is heavily inspired by my French-Indian heritage to create. My work is how I bring both of those worlds together through my different passions and love for the 7 forms of art.
There is not enough visibility for South Indian artists in the media which is a big shame considering that depth and intensity that comes from our side of the world. I lacked seeing it represented and used in a positive manner so I have been trying very hard as to make that a possibility for myself and for future generations. My first book, ‘Lessons from the East Coast’, was dedicated to this exact topic, in it’s visual and poetic form.
While I enjoy digital media, I’ve found that the visuals, textures and sounds are something that have appealed to me since young. This is seen in my multiple works I’ve dedicated to synesthesia; the different connections and reactions connected to your senses. This topic is perfect for me because it goes beyond the visual and requires knowledge and manipulation of the other senses.
This led to my love for videography, sound and strengthened my mixed media manner
