Set the table!Â
Mdf, acrylics, mirrored tiles Â
Imagine seeing the songs you are used to listening to in your everyday. On this occasion, I tackled the themes of synesthesia, cultural memory and reappropriation. To represent these ideas, I took a mundane object, a coffee table, in order to bring synesthetic rhythms into the everyday. I am transforming the table into more than an object; it becomes a rhythmic archive that I can use to reclaim personal and collective histories. I sketched the designs while listening to a playlist containing western songs that have sampled Indian songs and vice versa. Over the course of this minor I have seen the benefit of reappropriation and how it has immense value to culture by expanding the intended audience. Â
This table acts as a visual fusion and conversation piece, taking visual elements from Indian and western worlds.
